SOS Kit’s Founder

Byungwook Park, a senior at Seoul International School, is the founder of SOS Kit, a nonprofit organization committed to restoring safety, connection, and dignity in high-conflict zones. The creation of the SOS Kit was fueled by Byungwook’s relationship with an Afghan refugee. He escaped Afghanistan in 2021 through Operation Miracle following the Taliban’s seizure of the Afghan government due to repeated life threats from the Taliban against his father, who worked as a diplomat. This relationship and Byungwook’s musical passion, rooted in his decade-long perseverance, have been an integral building block of the organization. Particularly, SOS Kit’s radio project, which broadcasts survival information and therapy music, is grounded in Byungwook’s philosophy of providing emotional grounding in addition to physical protection, and has been largely influenced by his curiosity and study in musical therapy during his sophomore year. Byungwook hopes to provide displaced individuals in high-conflict regions with basic medical and survival care, and most importantly, emotional healing to assist their perseverance.

About Us

We are a nonprofit organization committed to restoring safety, connection, and dignity in high-conflict zones.

In times of crisis, the most essential needs go beyond food and shelter. Our mission is to deliver carefully designed safety kits to displaced communities — kits that include not just physical protection, but emotional grounding as well.

What makes our kits unique is the restored radio placed inside each one. Repaired in collaboration with local repair shops, these radios are preloaded with violin music performed by student volunteers. For many families on the move, the radio becomes more than a tool — it becomes a familiar sound, a signal of hope, a reminder they are not forgotten.

We don’t work alone. Everything we do is built on collaboration — with grassroots NGOs, youth volunteers, refugee networks, and frontline repair technicians. Together, we listen first, design with care, and respond with precision.

Because safety isn’t just about surviving. It’s about feeling human again.

Our Mission & Values

To restore safety, dignity, and connection in conflict-affected communities by delivering portable safety kits that combine essential medical care with life-saving communication. Through local partnerships and sustainable design, we ensure that relief is not only immediate but lasting.

· Human Dignity – Every person deserves to feel seen, heard, and safe, even in times of crisis.
· Connection – Reliable communication is as vital as food and shelter, bridging isolation with information and hope.
· Sustainability – By sourcing and repairing locally, we create solutions that last and empower communities.
· Collaboration – We work hand-in-hand with grassroots NGOs, repair technicians, and volunteers to respond where help is needed most.
· Resilience – Our approach supports both physical safety and emotional strength, helping communities rebuild their sense of normalcy.
